Chester boss Simon Davies blamed his side's defensive errors for the Carling Cup thrashing at the hands of Leeds.

The Yorkshire side ran out convincing 5-2 victors thanks to Jermaine Beckford's first-half hat-trick, leaving the Blues to reflect on conceding 11 goals in two games following Saturday's 6-0 defeat at Dagenham.

"I thought we matched them at times but their first goal came from a long punt which ended up in the back of our net," said Davies.

"If we can't deal with a long punt upfield, then we've got problems. We got punished every time we made a mistake and that's a good lesson for us.

"We keep hurting ourselves with the mistakes we're making so we're having to effectively start off games on the back foot.

"We won the second half 1-0 and that was a positive after I'd asked the players at half-time to keep their discipline."
