Charlton have confirmed club stalwart Chris Powell is leaving The Valley to continue his playing career elsewhere.

Addicks boss Alan Pardew was unable to offer Powell new terms, so the 38-year-old former England left-back is heading for pastures new following the end of his third spell with the club.

"Chris is a consummate professional," Pardew told Charlton's official website.

"Make no mistake, it's a wrench to see him go, because of all the qualities he brings to a football club. We will miss him both on the pitch and behind the scenes.

"There is no doubt that a coaching or managerial role will eventually come his way, and I also have no doubt he will be back at Charlton at some capacity in the future.

"For now, though, it's au revoir, and of course I know I speak for everyone at Charlton when we wish Chris the very best for the end of his playing career."
