Charlton striker Izale McLeod admits he has plenty to prove to the Valley faithful as he looks to put a miserable first season behind him.

Mcleod, a £1.1million summer signing from MK Dons, managed just one goal for the Addicks and a loan spell at Colchester ended prematurely with a cruciate-ligament injury which will sidelined him until around the end of the year.

"I certainly think I've got something to prove," he told the club's official website.

"Charlton fans haven't really seen the real Izale McLeod, I would say. In the league I've only had 18 league appearances, with two starts, and I've yet to play 90 minutes.

"As a striker there is no better feeling than scoring. I'd have liked to have done it more than once this season but it's been one of those years.

"I've got to come back and force my way into the team. I want to show the fans, the manager and everyone what I'm really all about and that's scoring goals and exciting play."
