Burnley defender Clarke Carlisle believes the weather conditions on the Clarets' tour of America will help the players return to full fitness.
The former Watford centre-back was part of the side that lost 2-1 on Friday, in 100 degree heat, to Under-23 Premier League development side the Carolina Railhawks.
He told the club's official website: "It has to be taken into account that this was our first 90 minutes of pre-season after only 10-12 days of training.
"We are here for a reason and if we can gain fitness in such adverse weather conditions, then surely we should be able to handle what we consider to be normal conditions when we get home.
"Hopefully, another few days means people will see a more polished performance."
Owen Coyle's men will take on Minnesota Thunder on Tuesday.
