New Burnley recruit Remco van der Schaaf revealed he turned down offers from German clubs to join the club.

The Dutch midfielder has joined the Clarets on a three-year deal following his release from Vitesse Arnhem.

The former Holland Under-21 international, 29, began his career with Arnhem in 1997 in the first of two spells and also spent three years with PSV Eindhoven.

He told Burnley's official website: "I have played all of my career in Holland, but my contract at Vitesse was up this summer and I could have signed another.

"However, I needed a new motivation, so I chose to try elsewhere.

"I had other options in Germany, but playing in England is something special and I am really looking forward to playing in the Championship now at a great club."
