Burnley have signed teenage midfielder Kevin McDonald from Dundee for £500,000.

The 19-year-old was the subject of a failed £250,000 bid from Burnley last month, but they doubled the offer to clinch the deal.

The Carnoustie-born midfielder was targeted by Celtic two years ago and has since attracted interest from clubs in the Barclays Premier League.

Burnley manager Owen Coyle saw Scotland Under-21 international McDonald in action often, during his spell as boss of Dundee's Irn-Bru First Division rivals St Johnstone.

Coyle's move for McDonald follows Burnley's sale of Kyle Lafferty to Rangers last week in a deal worth in excess of £3million to the Clarets.
