Burnley will not be signing Andrew Cole after the striker failing to agree suitable terms with the Coca-Cola Championship outfit.

The former Manchester United and England forward enjoyed a successful three-month loan spell with the Clarets from Sunderland and had expressed a desire to join them on a permanent basis.

But, following his release from Sunderland, Cole will not be returning to Turf Moor.

Clarets boss Owen Coyle said: "We loved working with him and I think he loved it at the football club, but he had a decision to make and he's made it, which he is within his rights to do.

"The bottom line is the deal is not suitable to him."
