Rickie Lambert insists he intends to sign a new contract with Bristol Rovers - but the striker is in no hurry for the deal to be finalised.

Lambert, the Pirates' top scorer last season with 19 goals, has one year remaining on his current deal at the Memorial Stadium.

"We are still in negotiations and I have told them I want to be here," the 26-year-old told BBC Radio Bristol.

"There's no rush as I am going to be here this season, and at the moment I want to concentrate on getting fitter."

Lambert joined Rovers from Rochdale in a £200,000 deal in August 2006.
