Bristol Rovers have withdrawn their reserve team from the Pontins Holiday League.
Director of football Lennie Lawrence told the club's official website that he was concerned about the inconsistency of league opposition.
The impending move to Cheltenham, whilst the Memorial Stadium is redeveloped, was also a factor as the reserves would not be able to play their fixtures at Whaddon Road.
"One week we would be playing a very strong team full of first team players, and then the next week it would be a team of kids," said Lawrence.
"We feel that we can better serve our players by arranging matches as and when we need them. We will also be sending a lot of our youngsters out on loan to gain valuable match experience with other clubs. We hope this will build competition within the squad."
Reserve team coach Kevin Hodges has been released by the club with Lennie Lawrence and Paul Trollope taking control of the side.
