Long-term injury victim Ryan Green has set his sights on being fit for when Bristol Rovers return for pre-season training at the start of next month.

The right-back managed only 14 first-team appearances last season before being sidelined by a broken jaw, and his return was scuppered by a niggling Achilles problem that kept him out for the rest of the campaign.

Following surgery to cure the problem, Green is currently undergoing a three-week rehabilitation programme at Lilleshall which he hopes will hasten his recovery in time for the new season.

"If everything goes to plan then hopefully I will be able to join the rest of the lads for pre-season training on July 3," Green, 27, told the Evening Post. "I am at Lilleshall for three weeks. The first week involves doing lots of stretching and strengthening work and then the next two will mainly be spent running to try and get my fitness back up.

"The specialist who did the operation had a look at my Achilles and said there was an unbelievable amount of scar tissue. That has now been cleaned up and it feels okay at the moment.

"There are no problems, although it is when I start running on it next week that I will really be able to tell whether there is any reaction."
