Bristol Rovers striker Rickie Lambert is hopeful he can thrash out a new deal with the club in time for the start of the new season.

Lambert still has a year to run on his current contract but the 26-year-old, who was the Pirates top scorer last season with 19 goals, has revealed he is already in talks over his future at the club.

The striker has been recently linked with a move away from the Memorial Stadium but insists he is happy to commit to the club.

"We had discussions and the club said they would go away and think about things," Lambert told the Evening Post.

"There's no real rush because I've still got a contract for next season and I want to be here.

"I've told the club I'm happy here and hopefully we can get something worked out before we come back for pre-season training."
