Bristol Rovers boss Paul Trollope has paid tribute to Chris Carruthers and Sammy Igoe after the pair were released by the club on Wednesday.

Igoe and Carruthers have been deemed surplus to requirements alongside youngsters Ryan Paddock and Tom Godsell but Trollope is confident the two senior men will not be out of the game for long.

He told the club's official website: "Chris played a big part in what we achieved last season, but he's been frustrated recently with a lack of first team chances.

"I've thanked Chris for all his efforts, and we wish him all the best for the future. I'm sure he'll find another league club and do well there.

"Sammy originally came to us on loan at the end of a season, and then joined us on trial at the start of the next. He wasn't even getting paid which shows the type of lad he is.

"He played a huge part in the success we had last season through the play-offs and then at Wembley. He is another player who made a huge contribution for us and wherever he goes we wish him well."
