Brighton goalkeeper John Sullivan has signed a new one-year contract at the Withdean in a bid to make the number one jersey his own.
The 20-year-old, who has yet to make his first-team debut, is confident he can challenge current first choice Michel Kuipers in time for Albion's curtain raiser at Crewe.
"I didn't know if I would be offered a new deal as so many players were being released," Sullivan told the club's official website.
"So for me it is an honour to get another year, but I don't really want to settle on that. I want to be in the team for the first game of the season, that's my aim."
"The fact that I didn't get a chance at the end of the season has kicked me on even more to say this year I've got to take my chance. Everyone keeps saying that I am a young goalkeeper, but this time next year I'll be 21 and I need to be playing games."
