Charlie MacDonald is confident he can prove himself in the Football League with Brentford.

The 27-year-old striker became Bees boss Andy Scott's eighth summer signing last week following his move from Southend.

MacDonald was playing non-League football for Ebbsfleet before joining the Shrimpers last summer, but he started just 15 games for the Roots Hall side.

"I was very disappointed with my time at Southend. I don't think I was given enough game time," he told the Hounslow Chronicle.

"I scored five goals in 15 starts, which is a pretty good return, but for some reason I wasn't picked.

"But coming here is a chance for me to push on again, and hopefully play first-team football week in, week out. I'm confident I can score goals at this level."
