Brentford have completed their eight signing of pre-season with forward Charlie MacDonald joining from Southend for an undisclosed fee.

The Bees have been trying to complete the deal for the 27-year-old former Ebbsfleet striker for most of the summer, and manager Andy Scott was delighted to finally get his man on a two-year deal.

Scott told the club's official website: "I'm delighted to have signed Charlie for Brentford. It seems to have been an age in getting the deal done following numerous discussions with Southend.

"I was first interested in Charlie during pre-season last season but he chose to go to Southend. When he became aware that I still had an interest in him he made it known that Brentford was the only club he wanted to join and turned down the opportunity offered by a number of other clubs.

"Whilst discussions have been ongoing with his previous club for some time, his decision to join us has been unwavering and I'm sure he will contribute to a successful season."
