Darren Moore has arrived at Barnsley with a ringing endorsement from Derby manager Paul Jewell.

The 34-year-old central defender, who has signed a two-year deal at Oakwell, was voted player of the year at Derby last season.

Jewell said: "Darren is a top professional and is a fine example for players to look up to in terms of his effort and commitment.

"I worked with him at Bradford City and he was exactly the same there. He has been an absolute pleasure to work with and we wish him well."

Barnsley were one of several clubs, including Leicester and Bradford, in the race to sign Moore, who has won promotion to the Premier League four times - with Derby, West Brom (twice) and the Bantams.

Meanwhile, former Tykes midfielder Dwayne Mattis, 26, has signed a two-year deal at Walsall after having his contract at Oakwell terminated by mutual consent earlier this week.
