Barnsley manager Simon Davey admitted the club will not be making an improved offer to Chesterfield striker Jamie Ward.

The Tykes had a £400,000 bid accepted by Chesterfield for Ward last week, but could not agree personal terms with the 22-year-old.

Davey added: "We have had no contact with Jamie, Chesterfield or his representatives since he walked out the door.

"We made an offer to Jamie and he turned it down, so that's as far as we'll go."

Davey revealed he hoped to have at least one alternative goalscorer in place at Oakwell by the middle of this week following his side's home defeat to Southampton over the weekend.
